In recognition of significant achievement as a Performing Artist and for distinguished contribution to the lives of Performers and the Film and Television Industry overall.

John Juliani Award of Excellence

John Cassini is regarded as one of Canada’s most versatile and dynamic actors. He is a multiple award-winning actor and has had the distinction of being a series lead on two of Canada’s top shows: the internationally acclaimed drama Intelligence (Best Actor Nomination) and the critically acclaimed half-hour comedy Robson Arms (Leo Award, Best Actor). John’s ability to effortlessly shift from lovable and hapless comedic characters, and salt-of-the-earth dads and detectives, to ruthless figures in organized crime keeps him in high demand.

In addition to his busy acting career, John is also a TV and film producer and a highly sought-after acting coach. This TV, film, and theatre veteran has been a Lifetime Member of the renowned Actors Studio in New York since 1994 and is the Founding Artistic Director of Railtown Actors Studio in Vancouver, now in its 11th year.

Select feature film credits include Disney’s Alive, David Fincher’s Se7en and The Game, the sci-fi thriller Volition (Leo Award Nomination), True Fiction (Leo Award Nomination), A Dog’s Way Home for Sony, and Double Life for Paramount. John also produced and starred in the feature film Daughter (UBCP/ACTRA Award: Lead Actor), which was developed through the Railtown Actors Studio Lab and directed by Anthony Shim (Riceboy Sleeps). Other selected TV projects include APTN’s Tribal and Blackstone (Leo Award & UBCP/ACTRA Nominations for both), and the Fox series NeXT.

Select theatre credits in Los Angeles include David Mamet’s Edmond, Sam Shepard’s Geography of a Horse Dreamer, and Harold Pinter’s One for the Road. In Canada, his theatre work includes Rabbit Hole (Arts Club), God of Carnage (Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre), and Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Motherf**ker with the Hat at the Firehall Arts Centre (Jessie Nomination: Lead Actor).

In 2018, John was awarded the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award for Achievement. In 2023, he appeared in the world premiere of The Cull at the Arts Club Theatre. More recently, John has executive produced three television movies and guest-starred in Accused, Fox’s critically acclaimed anthology series for Apple TV, directed by Michael Chiklis, premiering this fall.

John is deeply honoured to receive the John Juliani Award from a community he cherishes.

We will be celebrating John at the UBCP/ACTRA Awards on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Commodore Ballroom.
